Swim Lessons

We will be offering two sessions for swim lessons this summer.  All classes are on weekdays.  Sign-up for the first session will begin by June 5th and can be done through our app with “Wild Apricot for Members” at that time.  An e-mail blast will come out by June 3 letting you know when the registration window will be open.  Each child is offered one session of lessons at no cost.  If the child is enrolled in one or more of the remaining sessions, a fee of $10 per child is charged for each session.  This fee is payable by the first day of the session for which it applies.  Swim Class Levels will be limited to an average of ten (10) swimmers and will be approximately thirty (30) minutes long.  Classes will be scheduled for two (2) daily sessions, 10:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. with levels 4 - 6 in the 10:30 time slot (right after swim team practice) and levels 1 - 3 in the 11:15 time slot. In order to make the classes effective by reducing distractions, we ask that unsupervised children who are not participating in class leave the premises until their class starts or the Club opens for the day.

Swim Lessons Schedule

All six levels will be offered daily, subject to availability of instructors and enrollment. Every effort will be made to accommodate everyone. Due to the need to limit class size, please show consideration to others by enrolling only those children who are sure they can attend faithfully.  Depending upon enrollment, classes may be cancelled or combined.

Swim Lesson Categories

At Fort Island Swim Club, swimming lessons are conducted following the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program.  Learn-to-Swim teaches aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. The objective is to teach people to swim and to be safe in, on, and around the water. The class levels reflect recent changes in the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program.  The six Learn-to-Swim levels and the objectives for each level include:

Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills: helps students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely.

Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills: gives students success with fundamental skills.

Level 3 - Stroke Development: builds on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice

Level 4 - Stroke Improvement: develops confidence in the strokes learned and improves other aquatic skills.

Level 5 - Stroke Refinement: provides further coordination and refinement of strokes.

Level 6 - Swimming and Skill Proficiency: refines the strokes so students swim them with ease, efficiency, power, and    smoothness over greater distances.
